Sharon & I took Tracey for a day out in London for her __th birthday, centred around Ipswich's game at the New Den. Millwall away - what a treat!
'Dry January' made the decision to drive to London, rather than catch a train, an easy one. We parked at Newbury Park Underground station, brought some travel cards and got a tube to London Bridge. Once there we had a wander around the nearby Borough Market where we spotted a cafe selling 'Bubble Baps' served with either sausage or bacon, lovely ol job!

After doing our 'tourist bit' we met up with Max, Ben, Arun & Josh at The Old Kings Head, which is down an alleyway off the main Borough High Street. When we arrived they were standing outside, as it was rammed inside and a nightmare to get served, so we walked around the corner to the Heeltap a little bit more upmarket, therefore a little bit quieter and a little bit more expensive, ask Max - '£5.35 for a pint of Peroni'.
I had my first pint of Lime & Soda of the day and Sharon had a coffee! Tracey had a large glass of white wine - she had stayed sober in October!
The lads were still in the bar when we left at about 2pm to catch the train to South Bermondsey.
Town got off to a brilliant start, Noel Hunt scored twice in the first fourteen minutes and Millwall, who had made eight changes to the side that had been knocked out of their midweek FA Cup replay at Bradford, looked awful, I thought that we were going to thrash them. Fair play to them, they gradually clawed themselves back into the match and got a goal back through Magaye Guyeye a minute before the half-time whistle.
The second half started with the home side on the front foot and they looked like a completely different side, an equaliser would have really put Town on the back foot. It was a quite a relief when Jonny Parr scored our third goal, which effectively killed the game off, with just thirteen minutes remaining.
Ipswich moved back up to second in the league following Derby losing to a last minute goal at home to Nottingham Forest in their lunchtime kick-off.
If it was a tight squeeze on the outward train to Millwall, then the return to London Bridge was even more claustrophobic, I just about got into the carriage as the doors closed behind me.
I had a couple more Lime & Sodas at the George Inn, which is across the courtyard from the Heeltap, before heading to Brick Lane for a curry with Sharon, Tracey Max & Ben.
The curry houses are really competitive in Brick Lane, they have people out in the street encouraging punters into their restaurants, we got a really good deal from a guy outside Papadoms who offered us two free drinks each, free popadoms and twenty-five percent off our bill, so that's two pints of Cobra I passed up!
The meal was really good and our bill was just under sixty-eight pounds for five of us - a bargain!
We made it back to Ipswich just before midnight sealing another good away day.
